Green Scandal on Climate Change?
Inside the beltway pundits and greens are talking about how ex-ExxonMobil lobbyist Phillip Cooney has 'edited' climate change documents to downplay the significance of global climate change. And after revising said documents he returned to ExxonMobil. What else is new? Industry lobbyists and environmental lobbyists come and go in every administration. Mr. Cooney's influence will have little effect on the G-8 global warming proposal. The big influence in the U.S. occurred in 1997 when the U.S. Senate voted 97-0 to not even consider the Kyoto Protocol. The Clinton/Gore administration never even sent a Kyoto Protocol treaty to the Senate to ratify. Get a clue people. Cooney came to the White House Council on Environmental Quality and now he is gone. John McCain has a serious climate change bill pending in the U.S. Senate (It failed 38-60). Although the Bush Administration is pursuing a voluntary program, the U.S. will ultimately adopt a mandatory carbon trading program.
