Detroit Hates Planet Earth
The U.S. auto industry and its allies opened their wallets last year to lobby Congress and the Bush administration during the fuel economy debate, boosting their spending by more than $12 million from the year before.
According to a Free Press analysis of federal disclosure forms, major U.S. automakers and industry trade associations spent $62.6 million on lobbying in 2007, compared with $50.3 million in 2006.
