UK mortgage lending up slightly

According to the Bank of England's lending report, mortgage lending for home purchases has been creeping up since the beginning of the year. However, remortgage activity has fallen back sharply. During the latter quarter of 2007, it enjoyed a temporary boom as interest rates fell.

Despite the recent recovery in mortgage lending, volumes are still a long way below the levels seen during the bubble.
