Andrew Breitbart: The Man Liberals Love To Hate And Why

Liberals despise Andrew Breitbart with a passion. Conservatives cheer him on for the most part and from a recent profile piece in The New York Times, Breitbart seems to be overly accessible, willing to make contact with him easy by volunteering his email and his phone number whenever asked and even when not asked.

Breitbart runs websites like Big Government, Big Journalism and Big Hollywood and was responsible for the outing of Anthony Weiner by being the first to publish and expose Weiner's online antics, which resulted in Weiner eventually resigning after first claiming his Yfrog, Facebook and Twitter accounts were hacked.

Breitbart's sites were also responsible for publishing videos about ACORN which subsequently resulted in Congress ending grants to the organization and federal agencies severing ties.

Liberals love to hate Andrew Breitbart, in my opinion, because he plays the game by the rules liberals and the liberal media created and he is better at it.

Some examples listed below will show how liberals do exactly what they claim to hate about Breitbart.

Conservative example via Breitbart:

Breitbart published an edited video he received of Shirley Sherrod (USDA employee when Breitbart published the video) speaking at the March 2010 NAACP Freedom Fund dinner in Georgia where her words from the edited video implied heavily that she discriminated against a white farmer.

The correction on Breitbart's initial post says "Correction: While Ms. Sherrod made the remarks captured in the first video featured in this post while she held a federally appointed position, the story she tells refers to actions she took before she held that federal position."

Subsequent events showed that the posted video was an excerpt of broader comments that conveyed alternate meaning. Breitbart said he did not edit the video and did not have a copy of the entire speech at the time.

The NAACP, who actually had the entire speech the whole time condemned Sherrod before watching it, then apologized, and Sherrod was forced to resign and is now attempting to sue Breitbart.

Liberal pundits toss Sherrod's name consistently claiming Breitbart's treatment of Sherrod was unethical, accusing him of editing the video himself all without one bit of proof or evidence to support their allegations.

Then they do the same thing they have accused him of.

Liberal examples:

Sarah Palin, October 2010, referenced the 1773 Tea Party and members of the far left liberal progressive portion of the Democratic party decided to deride her for her lack of knowledge, it was tweeted, retweeted, reported on and generally the left were having a field day stating that Palin didn't know the date of the Tea Party.

Cuffy Meigs at Perfunction provides a nice list of examples of liberal pundits and media personalities that jumped on that bandwagon before simple searches showed... oooops, Palin was right.





A more recent example from this past week of liberals providing a partial story, jumping into the fray, providing condemning headlines before the whole story emerges.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court flap where an initial story set liberals on a crash course with a brick wall, head first before the rest of the facts emerged.

From yesterday's post:

Latest Wisconsin news involves Supreme Court Justice Ann Walsh Bradley and Supreme Court Justice David Prosser where initial headlines quoting an anonymous source claimed that Justice Prosser "choked" Justice Bradley. No arrests were made and no charges filed against Prosser but liberals sites jumped off the cliff fast and furiousy before subsequent reports added a few facts to the news accounts.

Such as, there were other witnesses and according to another unnamed witness, Bradley charged after Prosser with fist raised and Prosser "put his hands in a defensive posture," adding "He blocked her."

That led to headlines from Think Progress such as "Four Ways Justice David Prosser Can Be Removed From Office", which discusses how the alleged choking was a class H felony, headlines from FireDogLake stating "Reports: Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Prosser Choked Colleague Before Anti-Union Decision," and more.

Those are just the tip of the iceberg where liberals report before they have the full facts, before they know the whole story, even as they condemn Breitbart of doing the same thing.

At least with the Sherrod affair, Breitbart actually had a video where the words came out her mouth, giving a legitimate reason for jumping fast and adding corrections after.

Do as I say, not as I do seems to be a liberal's prevailing mindset.

Back to Andrew Breitbart, who is accused by liberal pundits relentlessly of making up stories, hacking, photoshopping all allegations made against him in regards to the Weiner pictures and story before Weiner admitted he did do it all.

Breitbart wrote a book called RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION where he talks about how one needs to deal with the liberal news world head on and the reason Breitbart is so hated within the liberal community is because he does just that, he meets them toe to toe, he plays the game by the rules they set up and he wins, time and time again.

Breitbart exposes their agenda, shines a light on their hypocrisy and beats them at their own game.

We need more Andrew Breitbarts.

Breitbart Crashes Liberal Bitchfest: 'Did I hire you to prove my point about Netroots nuts?'

Too funny. Hysterical even. What do you get when you have hundredsof far left liberal angry progressives gathered in one place and Andrew Breitbart walks in the door? Especially right after publishing photos of Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner's unsolicited dick pics to unsuspecting women and some suspecting women. Weiner was ultimately forced to resign.

Downhill from there. Clayton asked Breitbart about a man who harassed two Muslim women in the city last night and claimed to be contacting Breitbart for help. (I've seen video of part of the incident, but all evidence suggests the guy was just bluffing.)

"Who is this person?" asked Breitbart. "You're a great reporter. Who is this person? Your journalism is vitriol! You can't even tell me who the person is."

"Have you kicked the cocaine habit?" asked Clayton.

"Did I hire you to prove my point about Netroots nuts?"

Weiner's Weiner Unveiled

In a very amusing turn of events, unless you are Anthony Weiner that is, Andrew Breitbart appeared on a satellite radio show of shock jocks Opie and Anthony, he showed the host Gregg Hughes aka "Opie" the X-rated photo he had previously refused to publish of Anthony Weiner's .... weiner.

Opie snapped a picture of the image without Breitbart's permission and now it is all over the Internet. Ironically, because the original underwear covered crotch-shot photo that started this whole Weinergate saga, was published via Yfrog, Opie used the same service to publish the graphic uncovered dick pic.

You can see it for yourself here, although it isn't much to look at.

Seems the first photo released to start the whole scandal and the last most graphic of photos, both using Yfrog and Twitter, all bring this story full circle.

Talk about bad timing, City Room is reporting that Anthony Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin, is pregnant.

[Update] Statement by Opies co-host Anthony (Anthony Cumia):

“In regards to the photo of Anthony Weiner that was leaked by members of The Opie And Anthony show on 6/8, I want to make it clear that Andrew Breitbart had no knowledge that this photo was being made public. A phone with the photo was being displayed and a camera in the studio caught it. It was then uploaded to twitter [sic], again, without Andrew Breitbarts [sic] knowledge.”

The details of today are at my two previous posts here and here, but this one announcing that Andrew Breitbart has been vindicated deserves it's own post.

Anthony Weiner after a day of dribbled photos he sent to as many as 6 women over the last few years, before he was married and after, has now admitted that everything reported by Breitbart was true.

The original crotch shot that Weiner denied sending... yup, he admits sending it now. The photos Breitbart published today.. yup, he admits sending them. He also admits there are more out there and probably far more graphic.

He was responsible for it all and he lied to try to get out of it and was willing to let Andrew Breibart be accused of falsifying photos, hacking, lying and a bunch of others things by Weiner supporters and members of the left blogosphere, like the writer of Cannonfire just to name one.

He apologized and was forced to list Breitbart among the other media he was apologizing to but so far, those that tried to destroy Breitbart with false accusations... not running to their computers to say sorry.

I can't really say with "certitude" if they will ever get around to it or not either.

Some may, we will see.

In the meantime, thank you Andrew Breitbart for staying with the story and for forcing Weiner to admit he publicly lied for over a week to his family, friends, constituents, supporters and the media.

“Andrew, would you go to the podium?” WCBS reporter Marcia Kramer, who just days earlier was threatened with arrest when she staked out Weiner’s congressional office in Washington, asked.

After a few requests, he agreed. Breitbart questioned whether Weiner was paying to rent the ballroom, and said it was perhaps not wrong to take the podium in that case. But he went up anyway.

My quick background from the other day so we are all caught up and on the same page:

Long story short, New York Democratic Representative Anthony Weiner's Twitter account listed publicly a Yfrog link to a picture of a underwear covered crotch shot of an erect penis. Weiner then deleted it immediately and claimed he was hacked, then that it was a prank against him, but could not say with "certitude" it was not a photo of him.

Yesterday a statement from Yfrog came out confirming that their email upload service had not been compromised, blowing the hacking claim out of the water and The Daily reported that the same application that Weiner was using the night in question, was used in that particular Tweet.

The other day I listed a few questions still left, one of which was "4) How many other women are going to eventually come out of the wood work claiming he sent them an underwear covered W/weiner photo?"

Today, Big Journalism provides the first: (Also at Big Government)

A new woman has come forward with what she claims are photographs, chats, and emails with Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY). These appear to undermine severely Rep. Weiner’s explanations that he was the victim of a “prank” or a “hack.”

The detailed new information suggests that the Brooklyn- and Queens-based representative and the young woman in question were involved in an online, consensual relationship involving the mutual exchange of intimate photographs.

BigGovernment.com and BigJournalism.com were approached regarding this information more than a week prior to the separate, independent event of Friday, May 27, 2011, when a link to the now-infamous “gray underwear” photograph appeared publicly on Rep. Weiner’s Twitter feed.

They say they will be updating their sites throughout the day with photographs, timelines, and other clarifying details but not everything they have because of the graphic nature of some of it.

This leads me to believe that not only do they have the evidence against Anthony Weiner showing that his now infamous crotch shot isn't the only one floating around, which would be why he couldn't say with "certitude" that it wasn't his underwear covered erect penis, but that he has a certain pattern of online sexual mischief.

If Big Government does have more evidence and provides it to the public as they are promising to do, the question of why Anthony Weiner has refused to allow an official investigation into the so-called "hacking" or "prank", will have been answered clearly.

No worries though, it really doesn't matter because "he's a Democrat", right?

[Update #1] There will probably be quite a few updates throughout the day and I will start a new thread when there is more than just a "it's me" photos provided by Breitbart.

I'm guessing Breitbart will start with those that are like the one above, silly and non-controversial, to set the stage for the pattern of private messaging with women online, then go for the kill with the more graphic, damaging information.

Smart man Breitbart, he is guaranteeing people are watching his site all day for new revelations.

Communist Teacher Forced To Resign After Video Published Encouraging Violence

Big complicated bruhaha and at the bottom of this post will be links provided to work your way through the he-said, she-said, video-said argument.

Long story short, Insurgent Visuals, via Breitbart's Big Government, published videos of a course Judy Ancel co-taught with Don Giljum at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) and the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC).

The videos are admittedly edited and as of now, Giljum has resigned and Ancel is alleging the edits were deliberate to make her look bad. A meme the far left has taken up vehemently.

Statement by Judy Ancel:

* Breitbart’s version: “Violence is a tactic and it’s to be used when it’s the appropriate tactic.”

* The real version: After students had watched a film on the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Workers’ Strike and the assassination of Martin Luther King, they were discussing nonviolence. I said, “One guy in the film. . . said ‘violence is a tactic, and it’s to be used when it’s the appropriate tactic.’ . . . “ The class proceeded to discuss and debate this.

Insurgent Visuals provides the actual video Ancel claims she was quoting from and finds:

In fact, the activist she “quoted” from the 1993 film At The River I Stand, Coby Smith, said, “…we saw non-violence as a tactic, and a tactic alone,” not, as Ancel erroneously claims,”violence is a tactic, and it’s to be used when it’s appropriate, the appropriate tactic” (our emphasis). Smith’s original, full quote appears at 1:02 – 1:15, below:

Go watch the video for yourself, Insurgent Visuals is correct in their transcript of what Ancel claims she was quoting to be quite different from what she said in her initial comments to the students in the course. (video here)

As for the teacher that resigned even though official retirement was just days away, his comments were clear as day and leave no room for misunderstanding:

LaborNotes.org has the facts wrong. Like Ancel, Giljam is misquoting and “selectively editing” himself to remove his admission that he had “inflicted pain and suffering on some people.”

Here is his Giljam’s full quote from the lecture–responding to a student who had observed that “different scenarios call for different action”:

Certainly, and I tend to agree with you, because I think if you look at labor’s history over the years, you’ll find that, you know, we’ve had a very violent history, with violent protest and reaction to suppression, OK? But as time has changed, the tactics have changed, or the need for those have changed, OK? Now, you know, that’s not to say that, in certain instances, strategically played out and for certain purposes that industrial sabotage doesn’t have it’s place–I think it certainly does. But as far as–and I can’t really honestly say that I’ve never wished, or have never been in a position where I haven’t wished real harm on somebody, or inflicted any pain and suffering on some people [Interjection: "We're all human."] that, you know, didn’t ask for it, but, you know–it certainly has it’s place, it certainly makes you feel a hell of a lot better sometimes, but beyond that, I’m not sure as a tactic today, the type of violence or reaction to the violence that we had back then would be called for here, and I think it would do more harm than good.

The portions not in bold, above, were not included in the video we produced. That may not have been the way Giljam would like his quote to have been edited, but it’s a fair edit, in our opinion, and includes Giljam’s confession about inflicting “pain and suffering”–which his statement to LaborNotes.org does not.

Children are impressionable and no teacher from kindergarten through college should be encouraging violence in any way, shape or form.

For the record, a person cannot claim to quote something from someone else, then change the whole quote to make it mean something else and still claim it is someone elses quote.

Once you change a quote, it becomes your quote, your statement.

Ancel can claim she simply misunderstood the initial quote and misstated it, or she can claim the quote as her own, but her BS about it being what someone else said is proven wrong by simply listening to the original quote from the 1993 film At The River I Stand which Insurgent Visuals happily found and provided to show Ancel trying to lie her way out of what she said.

Also, side note, it is annoying that a teacher would use a quote in this manner when she obviously had no clue what was actually said in the first place.

Ancel would definitely get an F if this was an assignment.

The video below is Sarah Palin at the Madison Wisconsin Tea Party rally on 4/16/11.



Palin covered a variety of issues, she gave support to Governor Scott Walker in his battle with union leaders, took the GOP to the woodshed for failing to fulfill campaign promises, tore into the left's big government agenda and how the 2010 elections showed voters rejecting that agenda by handing Democrats historic losses.

Then she ripped into Barack Obama and she did it well by comparing Obama's 2008 campaign promises with the reality of what he did, providing the example of his promise to cut the deficit in half then proceeding to triple it when he was in office.

Some highlights:

"We didn’t elect you just to rearrange the deck chairs on a sinking Titanic. We didn’t elect you just to stand back and watch Obama redistribute those deck chairs. What we need is for you to stand up GOP and fight! "

Invoking the national champion University of Wisconsin women's hockey team:

"Maybe I should ask them if we should be suggesting to GOP leaders they need to learn how to fight like a girl."

Governor Scott Walker

"He understands that states must be solvent in order to keep their promises, and that’s what he’s trying to do. He’s not trying to hurt union members. Hey folks, he’s trying to save your jobs and your pensions."

Obama

"We're flat broke, but he thinks these solar shingles and really fast trains will magically save us. So now he's shouting, all aboard the bullet train to bankruptcy."

"..flushed a trillion dollars down the drain on a useless stimulus package and then he bragged about the jobs he created in congressional districts that don't even exist."

"The only future that Obama is trying to win is his won re-election. He’s willing to mortgage your children’s future to ensure his own. And that’s no the audacity of hope, that’s cynicism. Piling more debt onto our children and our grandchildren is not courage! No that’s cowardice. "

It's ironic to watch so many so called establishment Republicans who seem to want to be leader of the free world dance their way around the more serious political battles of our time. They criticize, they pontificate, or editorialize, yet from ObamaCare to a budget deal, they're also careful to not too directly engage. The same can be said of them for what has played out in Madison, Wisconsin over the past month.

Whether it's talking about death panels, or blood libel, to now showing up in Madison - that's not former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. As I said to a friend and colleague tonight, wherever the current battle is, that's very often where you can find Palin. One of the first requirements for leadership is to show up out front. No one will ever accuse Palin of not doing that. Doing so also has an interesting side benefit for any would be leader. When you lead, people tend to follow and support you, even if not at first.

Huffpo Opens Huge Can Of Worms By Banning Andrew Breitbart From Front Page Citing 'Ad Hominem' Attacks

The Huffington Post, run by Arianna Huffington, banned Andrew Breitbart from their front page content citing "ad hominem" attacks that Breitbart made in another publication, The Daily Caller, against Huffington friend Van Jones.

Here is Huffington's statement:

Andrew Breitbart’s ad hominem attack on Van Jones in The Daily Caller -- right down to calling him a "commie punk" and "a cop killer-supporting, racist, demagogic freak" -- violates the tenets of debate and civil discourse we have strived for since the day we launched. As a result, we will no longer feature his posts on the front page.

He is welcome to continue publishing his work on HuffPost provided it adheres to our editorial guidelines, as the two posts he published on HuffPost did -- guidelines that include a strict prohibition on ad hominem attacks. Our decision today recognizes that placing posts on the front page is an editorial call that elevates some posts over others, and is an indication of how seriously we take these judgment calls.

Headline reaction to this pretty much shows exactly the rancid can of worms this has opened for Huffington Post with other liberals.

Lee Stranahan, because of this move on the part of Huffington Post, has announced he will no longer write for them- "Why I’m Quitting Blogging At The Huffington Post"

I’ll keep this short. As I wrote this morning, writing for the Huffington Post has been one of the great joys of my life for the past few years and I’ve been proud to be associated with them.

But as a writer, this latest move by The Huffington Post of banning Andrew Breitbart from their front page (because of comments he made to a different website) is both unprecedented, arbitrary and deeply offensive to the intellectual openness that Arianna Huffington has purported to believe in.

Although I’ve had a number of pieces featured there, I’m certainly not a huge presence at HuffPost so in that sense, I don’t expect this move on my part to make much of a ripple but I can’t in good conscience support this awful, short sighted move by the site that I loved.

Alex Pareene over at Salon, no fan of Breitbart either, lays into Huffington with "The stupid saga of Andrew Breitbart and the Huffington Post."

A strict prohibition on ad hominem attacks! ("Against Arianna's friends," is the bit of that sentence that spokesman Marco Ruiz left out.) (Also there is apparently no prohibition on constant, practically obsessive race-baiting, but whatever.) (And obviously there is no prohibition whatsoever on spreading toxic bullshit about autism and other assorted crimes against science.)

Andrew has now gotten exactly what he wanted. He doesn't need to publish his idiocies at the Huffington Post. But getting banned from the Huffington Post proves his thesis about the repressive, anti-free speech liberal media. And he'll never shut up about it.

David Weigel is disappointed as he titles his piece with "Huffington Post Wimps Out on Breitbart."

He didn't write or say any of that at HuffPo, a site he helped develop in 2005. Is the Huffington Post's standard that contributors can be to some modified limited hang-out if they use ad hominems in other forums? Boy, good thing Breitbart doesn't have an army of contributors who can comb HuffPo authors' published and spoken work to see if they've done that.

Moving right along to reactions from right leaning sites and people, we see that Weigel was spot on in his snark as well as Breitbart's "big" contributors being more than willing to sift through the leftist drivel over at Huffington Post to show the extreme hypocrisy of their actions against Breitbart.

Blaring headline by Alexander Marlow on Breitbart's Big Journalism site, states "ANNOUNCEMENT: Big Journalism Pledges to Help AOL/HuffPo Enforce No ‘Ad Hominem Attacks’ Rule."

We’ve never seen the Huffington Post make an effort like this to suppress the speech of any of their other (mostly left-wing) personalities. The hypocrisy is laughably obvious, and it was left-of-center bloggers Mickey Kaus of the Daily Caller, Alex Pareene of Salon, and Dave Weigel of Slate who were quickest to point it out. Pareene sums it up this way:

Andrew has now gotten exactly what he wanted. He doesn’t need to publish his idiocies at the Huffington Post. But getting banned from the Huffington Post proves his thesis about the repressive, anti-free speech liberal media. And he’ll never shut up about it.

True, we don’t plan to shut up about it any time soon, but we also don’t plan to shut up about the fact that HuffPo doesn’t just speak for HuffPo any more. They speak for AOL too. And the message they have sent is crystal: radical-left “truther” Van Jones and the anti-free speech race-baiting organization Color of Change he founded have editorial control at the new AOL/HuffPo, and they’re out to silence the Americans with whom they disagree.

AOL/HuffPo has thousands of bloggers, many of whom have said and will say things much worse than what Breitbart said, so we here at Big Journalism are hereby pledging to help AOL/HuffPo enforce their “no ad hominem attacks by bloggers” rule. The work will be hard, the hours will be long, but in the name of equality and for the good of the site Andrew Breitbart developed, we will do our best to save AOL/HuffPo from itself.

Big Journalism isn't the only ones being "helpful" in pointing out examples of ad hominem attacks published on the Huffington Post site itself (just not against one of Arianna's friends) and are highlighting them.

Breitbart is far from the first prominently featured contributor to The Huffington Post that has made ad hominem attacks (though unlike others who had their ad hominem attacks published in posts on The Huffington Post, Breitbart’s comments were not made in posts on the site).

The Huffington Post published an article by actor John Cusack in November 2005 that called Republicans “a league of bastards” and said that Iraq war supporters “are human scum.”

Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz wrote an article appearing on The Huffington Post a day after the death of Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist in September 2005. Dershowitz wrote that Rehnquist “started out his political career as a Republican thug” and that “Rehnquist’s judicial philosophy was result-oriented, activist, and authoritarian.”

Rehnquist was a “friend of corporations, polluters, right wing Republicans, religious fundamentalists, homophobes, and other bigots,” Dershowitz wrote.

“Cheney is a terrorist. He terrorizes our enemies abroad and innocent citizens here at home indiscriminately,” wrote actor Alec Baldwin in February 2006.

Baldwin wrote in a subsequent post, “I want to apologize to all of the readers of this blog for referring to Vice President Cheney as a terrorist… How about something more measured, then? How about… a lying, thieving Oil Whore. Or, a murderer of the US Constitution?”

That was just examples from page one, they provide a few more on page two.

This is just day one folks, imagine all the wonderful things still left to find in the years Arianna has allowed her leftist writers free reign to write absolutely anything their heart desires without restraint, as long as it wasn't against one of her friends.

Breitbart To ABC: Liar, Liar, Pants On Fire And I have The Emails To Prove It!!

Okay, so he doesn't actually say that but he might as well, plus it would have been more amusing.

Long story short, Andrew Breitbart announced he would be giving election night analysis for ABC News and far left progressive bloggers went absolutely nuts, losing what little minds they have left this close to a massive rout for them on November 2, 2010. (Tommorow- remember to VOTE)

ABC News, in an attempt to appease their liberal audience, issued a statement "clarifying" the role Breitbart would be playing on election night.

Today, Breitbart produces the emails that brought about his agreement to participate in the ABC News event.

ABC News is conducting a live event from Phoenix, Arizona for our election night special on Tuesday, November 2nd 2010. I am looking for political figures and newsmakers to appear in our Town Hall style panel.

ABC News is providing live coverage of the midterm elections hosted by Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos in New York, and correspondents across the country.

ABC News has partnered with Facebook and The Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University to live stream the entire event on abcnews.com, ABC News Now and Facebook.

The Town Hall is hosted by ABC correspondent David Muir and Randi Zuckerberg from Facebook, as well an ASU student leader.

The audience will consist of 150 students equipped with laptops and Ipads who will participate in online political conversations.

The issues include health care, the economy, immigration, terrorism, and the environment. We will have panelists who will contribute to these conversations remotely from Washington, DC, New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA.

This program will broadcast on the ABC Television Network, abcnews.com, ABC News Now, and ABC News Radio.

The show will be live on the web and ABC News Now as well as on the network from 4:00pm till 11:00pm MST.

I absolutely love Breitbart's comment after producing the original email:

In addition to the two times that an ABC News producer confirms in the email that I will be part of ABC News’ network broadcast, David Ford of ABC News confirmed to Media Matters that I “will be one of many voices on our air” on election night.

I was promised no specific amount of airtime, nor payment for my analysis, but was told that I would be a part of the broadcast coverage in addition to participating in the online event, as the email above clearly reveals.

And, clearly, I was being asked to give analysis – or, was ABC News paying for me to fly to Arizona and to foot my hotel bill so that I could perform avant-garde interpretative dance?
