Then after looking at discussions at Memeorandum under that Hill piece,I ran across Don Surber who uses the the Bureau of Labor Statistics site and shows a far different math equation:
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 142.1 million Americans had jobs on January 20, 2009, when Barack Obama was inaugurated as our 44th president.According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 139.8 million Americans had jobs in May 2011, the latest figures available.
Using Surber Math, that is a net loss of 2.3 million jobs.
Surber takes it a step farther:
By the way, there were 136 million Americans employed the day George Walker Bush became the 43rd president, again, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Using Surber Math, that is a gain of 6.1 million jobs over an 8-year period.
Read Surber's entire piece.
In Surber's world 142.1 million minus 139.8 million is 2.3 million loss
In Obama's world 142.1 million minus 139.8 million is a gain of 3.6 million.
I really, really, really need Obama's calculator because I want a Hawaii vacation!!!
