Tyndale Bulletin Now On-line

I reported last year that Tyndale Bulletin would soon be available on-line to subscribers. Since then Dr Ted Hildebrandt of Gordon College has completed the huge task of scanning and proof-reading articles and, I am delighted to report, these all available free of charge up except for the last 3 years. Over the last few weeks I have been adding the links to my Table of Contents and the relevant subject listings.

Thanks to Tyndale House for making this tremendous resource available to all.

Craig Bartholomew on Babel and Derrida

Summary:

This article assesses the challenge postmodernism constitutes for biblical interpretation via an analysis of Derrida’s reading of the Tower of Babel narrative. Derrida’s setting of the text in play is found to be an unhelpful model for biblical interpretation, but his foregrounding of language in the narrative and the implications of philosophy of language for interpretation are useful. The contours of Derrida’s Babelian philosophy of language are explored and its insights noted. It is argued that the ultimate issues in philosophy of language are theological and that Christian scholars need to articulate a Christian view of language.

Tyndale Bulletin to be put on-line this year

In November 2005 Mark Goodacre noted in his blog that he never consulted Tyndale Bulletin "because of its weak on-line presence". I have heard that this is about to change and that later this year the complete run of Tyndale Bulletin will be available on-line to subscribers (with new editions appearing after one year). When it appears I will of course be linking to this articles from my sites, but in the mean-time I have been given permission to host 10 articles from the journal. The first four are now available, 3 on www.biblicalstudies.org.uk and one on www.earlychurch.org.uk (see my other blog for details).
