PolitiFact Calls Nancy Pelosi A Liar

Paraphrased but PolitiFact says Nancy Pelosi is "wrong" and rates her statement "false". A liar by any other name is still a liar.

"We got in this situation where we had tax cuts for the wealthiest people in our country, which did not create jobs," she said. "In the first year of the Obama administration, more jobs were created in the private-sector than in the eight years of the Bush administration, with all of the tax cuts that President Bush had."

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the economy shed almost 4.2 million private-sector jobs during the first year of the Obama administration -- January 2009 through January 2010.

Meanwhile, during eight years under Bush, the economy gained a net 188,000 private sector jobs.

So while job growth under Bush was anemic by historical standards, it was still better than the 4.2 million jobs lost under Obama. That means Pelosi was wrong.

Nuff said.

I'll Be Damned, Pigs Fly: Pelosi Thanks Bush For Role In Osama Takedown

I seriously believed pigs would fly before I saw what I just read, but lo and behold, I just read a piece at The Hill that reports Nancy Pelosi called President George Bush tp "congratulate him and thank him for the leadership role he had played in this quest over the years."

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) said she called former President George W. Bush on Tuesday to congratulate him on the capture and killing of Osama Bin Laden.

Following a classified briefing on the operation to take down bin Laden, Pelosi told reporters that she called the former president earlier in the day to "congratulate him and thank him for the leadership role he had played in this quest over the years."

Pelosi was Speaker of the House for two years while Bush was in the White House.

Pelosi said she thought Bush appreciated the call.

“I wanted him to know the appreciation that many of us have in a bipartisan way ... that his role was important," she said.

Wow. Pelosi has just publicly done what Barack Obama didn't do publicly. She showed a bit of class by acknowledging what Bush did while he was in office.

Fact Checker: Pelosi's Bloviated Bluster Is 'Absurd'

Washington Post's The Fact Checker has determined that Nancy Pelosi is a liar and rated her comments a 4 on the Pinocchios scale.

According to their rating scale that is the considered "whoppers".

Big surprise there.. NOT.

Pelosi's claim:

“In one of the bills before us, 6 million seniors are deprived of meals — homebound seniors are deprived of meals. People ask us to find our common ground, the middle ground. Is middle ground 3 million seniors not receiving meals? I don't think so. We've got to take this conversation from a debate about numbers and dollar figures and finding middle ground there to the higher ground of national values. I don't think the American people want any one of those 6 million people to lose their meals or the children who are being thrown off of Head Start and the rest of it.”

It seems she "misspoke", not once but three times in a row according to her spokesperson.

Anyone who believes it was a mistake instead of a deliberate attempt to terrify seniors, please email me, I have a prime piece of swampland in Florida to sell.

The first problem with Pelosi’s statistic is that, according to the agency’s budget documents, only about 2.6 million seniors receive such meals. That’s even less than what she decried as the mushy middle ground of compromise.

After we pointed out that fact, Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said “she means meals for seniors — 6 million meals.” In 2011, the agency is expected to deliver a little over 200 million meals, so that’s a cut of about three percent.

That’s a pretty big “oops.” She referred to “6 million seniors,” “3 million seniors” and “6 million people.” We understand slips of a tongue, but three times in a row, so emphatically, is hard to fathom.

The Fact Checker's conclusion is that "Pelosi’s statement ranks high on this year’s list of bloviated bluster."

Furthermore:

It’s bad enough that she repeatedly mixed up 6 million meals and 6 million people — and made no effort to correct the record after her statement was reported in the media. But the figure she used appears to have been invented itself, with little basis in fact.

Nancy Pelosi is not serious about getting Washington's out of control spending under control, in fact, during her reign as Speaker of the House, according to the according to the U.S. Treasury Department, national debt rose by $5 trillion. (That was total back in October 2010)

At the close of business on Jan. 4, 2007, Pelosi’s first day as speaker, the national debt was $8,670,596,242,973.04 (8.67 trillion), according to the Bureau of the Public Debt, a division of the U.S. Treasury Department. At the close of business on Oct. 22, it stood at $13,667,983,325,978.31 (13.67 trillion), an increase of 4,997,387,083,005.27 (or approximately $5 trillion).

Pelosi's pathetic attempt to scare seniors, her hyperbole, her "bloviated bluster" and her refusal to understand a country cannot continue to function by spending more than it takes in, is one of the major reasons American voters removed her from the Speaker of the House position and stripped that gavel from her grubby little paws.

Opening Session of the 112th Congress -Livestreamed On Facebook

[Update] Screen shots of Boehner accepting gavel from Pelosi and of Boehner's acceptance speech, found of following post.

Watching the vote to officially hand the Speaker of the House title over from Nancy Pelosi to John Boehner. Give up the gavel Nancy, you have done enough damage!!

At her final press conference as House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said, "Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra, pay-as-you-go."

The numbers tell a different story.

When the Pelosi Democrats took control of Congress on January 4, 2007, the national debt stood at $8,670,596,242,973.04. The last day of the 111th Congress and Pelosi's Speakership on December 22, 2010 the national debt was $13,858,529,371,601.09 - a roughly $5.2 trillion increase in just four years. Furthermore, the year over year federal deficit has roughly quadrupled during Pelosi's four years as speaker, from $342 billion in fiscal year 2007 to an estimated $1.6 trillion at the end of fiscal year 2010.

Not surprising that some Democrats are voting against Pelosi. It was expected.

[Update] Up to 16 Democrats already have voted for someone other than Pelosi and they are only at the P's.

[Update #2] Up to 18 Dems voting against Pelosi.

[Update #3] 19 now!

[Update #4] Congratulations to the new Speaker of the House, John Boehner. Vote is 241 for Boehner, 173 Pelosi, 19 for other and those that did not vote yet are being given a chance to register their vote.

Obama And Republicans Need To Tell House Dems: Pass The Deal, As Is, Or We Will In January

The tax deal Obama negotiated directly with Congressional Republicans after becoming dispirited at the lack of cooperation he was getting from Congressional Democrats has the overwhelming support from a majority of Americans and has passed it's first test vote (for cloture) in the Senate with an 83-15 vote.

Yet House Democrats are still trying to change the deal and it is time for Barack Obama, the Senate, and Congressional Republicans to tell the Pelosi and House Democrats "enough is enough, pass the deal, as is, or it will be passed in January when the GOP takes control of the House of Representatives."

Period.

House Democrats are angry they lost power and at the end of the year will no longer control the House, no longer be able to control the House agenda so they are attempting to make themselves feel relevant again in a power play they have no hope of winning. They should not be allowed to put on their little show at the expense of American's piece of mind.

It is a bipartisan deal negotiated by the leader of their party, Barack Obama, leaders of the Republican party and it is has been given the blessing of the majority of Americas and cloture on the tax deal passed the Senate with the most bipartisan support we have seen on almost anything controversial for over two years.

House Democrats need to either get on board or get out of the way because all they are doing at this point is proving to the American people that the midterm elections, the "shellacking" the Democrats took, was justified and it is this type of unreasonable posturing by House Democrats that caused them to lose control of the House in the first place.

[Update PS] I do not like many of the "sweeteners" that were added, I do not like many of the original parts of the deal Obama and Republicans negotiated, but as I tell the liberal left constantly, when the majority of Americans speak up, those who are in the way need to get out of the way, including me and other conservatives.

Had this issue not been put off until the very last minute, then perhaps the debate and negotiations could have gone differently, but it was put off, it is the last minute, and different polls from separate individual organizations show the majority of Americans favor this deal, so just pass the damn thing and quite howling over it.

A little note to my conservative brethren- When Obamacare showed the majority of Americans opposed to the law and liberals who controlled the House, Senate and White House ignored the will of American voters, passed it and signed it into law, look what happened on November 2, 2010.

Voters remembered.

Many of us howled then about house Democrats ignoring the majority, we said Obamacare should not be passed when the majority was so opposed to it and Democrats did it anyway.

Well, the shoe is now on the other foot and unless you are hypocrites, you have to maintain that the majority should be listened to whether you agree with all aspects of the deal or not.

Tax Deal: Obama Tells Lame Duck House Dems You're Irrelevant Now

For days we have seen liberals pitching a fit over Obama's negotiated tax deal with Republicans. Liberals screaming "Fuck the President and progressives talking about how weak he is.

I have written about it from the beginning, here, here, here , here, here and here. (Order most recent to oldest)

House Democrats are pissed because Barack Obama went over their head, didn't include them in the negotiations and they are throwing a fit because of it.

Raul M. Grijalva:

"The House was not consulted during the negotiations that produced this package, and our support cannot be taken for granted now or in the future....."

Grijalva is being dishonest there though because according to The Politico after this whole tax deal was made, Obama did try to "consult" with Democratic leadership and they were unreasonable:

One administration official told POLITICO that Obama was so dispirited after his Nov. 18 meeting with the Democratic leadership that he decided, then and there, to place his faith in direct talks with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

“The point is the House and Senate [leadership] has proven they are incapable of getting things done,” the official said.

But really, why should Obama bother to deal with the Democratic House leadership anymore? After this year, starting January, the GOP will control Congress and it is the GOP Obama will have to deal with.

If the House Dems block the tax deal, the GOP will pass it in January, probably making it retroactive.

All Barack Obama really did was tell Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats that their lame duck asses are irrelevant now.

And they are.

That ladies and gentlemen is the whole reason the liberal media, progressive blogopshere and House Democrats are crying a river. Their irrelevance has just been made public by none other than Barack Obama and they don't like it.

Democrats Can Say Goodbye To DREAM Act In Lame Duck Session

Harry Reid and far left Democratic politicians are planning to schedule a vote on one or all of the five different versions of DREAM Act that have been floated during the lame duck session of Congress and the GOP is standing firm against pushing through the rest of the Democratic agenda before newly elected Senators are seated and the House turns over control to the GOP in January after voters swamped the polls and stripped control from Nancy Pelosi and Democrats.

It is not only the Senate GOP that is refusing to cooperate with Harry Reid in the Senate though, centrist Democrats and Democrats who are up for reelection are not exactly thrilled with jumping off the cliff as Reid would like them to.

The Hill Reports "Short goodnight expected for the DREAM Act during lame duck."

Even as Democrats in both chambers prepare to consider the measure this week, Republicans and centrist Democrats are already lining up to shoot it down.

The climb is particularly steep in the Senate, where Republicans will filibuster the hot-button bill, and even former sponsors now stand in opposition.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, for instance, was the lead sponsor of the original DREAM Act when it emerged nine years ago. But already facing pressure from conservatives surrounding his 2012 reelection bid, the six-term Utah Republican is "sprinting to the right" away from the proposal, according to Frank Sharry, executive director of America's Voice, an advocacy group lobbying for the bill.

"He's not on any of our 'get' lists," Sharry said.

Hatch spokeswoman Antonia Ferrier declined to comment Friday on whether Hatch supports the underlying policy. She said Hatch's opposition — at least in the near term — stems from the recent vow among Senate Republicans to deny everything that hits the floor before the Bush tax cuts and government funding issues are settled.

"Everything's a 'no' until the tax issue is resolved," Ferrier said.

Harry Reid already knows all of this as the GOP penned a letter and sent it to him making it very clear that until the Tax issue is dealt with, the issue ranking the very top of the list for Americans, the GOP will filibuster and stop anything else from the Democratic last minute to-do list.

For that reason, we write to inform you that we will not agree to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to any legislative item until the Senate has acted to fund the government and we have prevented the tax increase that is currently awaiting all American taxpayers. With little time left in this Congressional session, legislative scheduling should be focused on these critical priorities. While there are other items that might ultimately be worthy of the Senate's attention, we cannot agree to prioritize any matters above the critical issues of funding the government and preventing a job-killing tax hike.

To top matters off, we now see that Reid is also going to try to pass one last Omnibus bill, by shoveling 100+ other bills into one large bill to try to get his socialist, far left liberal agenda through at the last minute before the 5 addition GOP Senators are seated in January and the Republicans take control of the House.

Democratic efforts to push through more than 100 public lands and water bills in the lame duck session are reaching a fever pitch, with the recognition this is the last chance many of them have to become law.

Voters got sick of Reid/Pelosi/Obama doing that over the last two years and the Democrats are still trying to play the same game as they did before the elections, showing that they didn't learn a thing from the "shellacking" (Obama's word) that they took on November 2, 2010.

Americans and legal residents who have been battling against Democrats trying to provide amnesty to illegal immigrants have been pounding the phones letting their elected Representatives and Senators know it would be political suicide to jam through the DREAM Act during the lame duck session of Congress (after elections before the newly elected members are seated) and to that end, below is a long list of numbers to call and contact forms to fill out.

Democrats up for reelection and Republicans that need reminding of just who elected them.

Thank You Democrats For Electing Nancy Pelosi As Minority Leader

Right about now the RNC, Republicans in the House, Senate and across the country are popping the champagne and toasting Democrats for electing Nancy Pelosi in as the minority leader for the 112th Congress, after she successfully presided over the worst loss for Democratic party in midterm elections in the last 70+ years.

CBS reports:

The 70-year-old Californian was opposed by Rep. Heath Shuler of North Carolina in her bid to become minority leader in the new Congress. Shuler argued that Pelosi needed to go after presiding over the loss of the chamber earlier this month.

"We've obviously come off the biggest loss that we've had for the Democratic party in almost a century," Shuler, a former professional football player, said yesterday. "And to go back and put the exact leadership into place is probably not the right thing for our party."

But Pelosi had little trouble repelling the challenge from Shuler, one of the relatively-conservative Blue Dog Democrats who saw their numbers decimated in the midterms. The vote was 150 for Pelosi to 43 for Shuler.

In a sign of Pelosi's strength, Democrats voted 129-68 to proceed to a vote today over objections from those who sought a delay in order to have more time to mount a viable challenge to Pelosi.

Considering Pelosi has been Speaker of the House since 2006 and latest reports show that under her leadership, despite economic hardships across the country, Congressional members personal wealth expanded exponentially, it only makes sense that they keep her (tongue in cheek folks!!).

OpenSecrets:

Despite a stubbornly sour national economy congressional members’ personal wealth collectively increased by more than 16 percent between 2008 and 2009, according to a new study by the Center for Responsive Politics of federal financial disclosures released earlier this year.

And while some members’ financial portfolios lost value, no need to bemoan most lawmakers’ financial lot: Nearly half of them -- 261 -- are millionaires, a slight increase from the previous year, the Center’s study finds. That compares to about 1 percent of Americans who lay claim to the same lofty fiscal status.

And of these congressional millionaires, 55 have an average calculated wealth in 2009 of $10 million or more, with eight in the $100 million-plus range.

PS Those names include Democratic and Republican members of Congress

From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely thank Democrats for giving the GOP the biggest gift since the midterm elections.

More at The Hill.

Pelosi Divisive Figure Even Within Democratic Party

Not only has Nancy Pelosi presided over the biggest Democratic loss in over 20 years and not only has she been one of the most polarizing divisive figures to American voters, but now that she has lost her Speaker of the House gavel, she is continuing to be just as divisive within her own Democratic party.

CNN poll:

Forty-five percent of Democrats questioned in the survey say they would prefer Pelosi to serve as House minority leader, with 47 percent saying they would prefer another Democratic member in the House.

"Whatever divides the Democratic party on that question, gender and ideology seem to have nothing to do with it," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "There are no differences between Democratic men and Democratic women on whether Pelosi should continue to lead the House Democrats, nor is there a major difference between liberal Democrats and Democrats who call themselves moderates or conservatives."

The Republicans won back at least 60 House seats in this month's midterm elections (six races remain unresolved) and come January, will control the chamber for the first time in four years. With the Democrats going from the majority to minority party, they lose the House speaker position to the Republicans. Pelosi, who became a major target of Republicans in the midterms, is now running to serve as minority leader, a move that has triggered some opposition by moderate and conservative Democrats.

According to the poll, one third of all Americans have a favorable opinion of Pelosi, with 52 percent saying they hold an unfavorable opinion, and 15 percent unsure.

Dozens of Democratic politicians have already indicated they will not vote to keep Pelosi as head of the Democratic party in the House of Representatives, some urging her to withdraw her name for that position. (Unfortunately for them, their numbers will not add up to enough to keep her from winning the position)

Letter from Defeated Members:

Many of us want the chance to run again and reclaim the seats that we lost on Tuesday. With you as the leader of House Democrats, the hangover of 2010 stands no chance of subsiding. Many of us have run our last race but remain committed to our party; we want to help recruit successful candidates to run in our stead. Unfortunately, we fear that Republicans will further demonize you, and in so doing they will scare potential candidates out. The prospect of having to run against their own party leadership in addition to their Republican opponent is simply too daunting.

This is a difficult letter to write, because we admire your commitment, your drive, and your conviction. You have been an historic figure in our great nation, and for that we are all proud, as should you be. Nonetheless, we each experienced how Republican demonization of you and your leadership contributed to our defeat.

It is impossible not to judge the results of November 2nd as anything but a profound loss. We want to recover. Recovery of our majority in the House necessitates new leadership at the top of our party. We believe that you can and will play an extraordinary role in our party, and it is extremely unfortunate that Republicans have taken away your ability to lead as effectively as you are able. Nonetheless, one mark of a strong leader is the ability to discern when it is time to pass the baton. As defeated members, whose party needs to rebuild, we are counting on you to show the strength of your leadership in this dark hour. We ask that you step aside as leader of our party in the House.

With utmost respect, we are..
Of course Pelosi believes she has no blame for the "shellacking" Democrats suffered on Nov. 2, 2010 and is brushing aside calls to step down.

Others are determined to run against her for that position, with other Democrats calling her "politically toxic."

Republicans on the other hand, would simply love to have Nancy Pelosi continue on in the top minority leadership role as evidenced by the "Hire Pelosi" banner they erected.

Heath Shuler And Others To Challenge Pelosi For Minority Leadership Position

With a growing number of Democrats publicly stating they will not support Nancy Pelosi for the position of House minority leader after she presided over the worst Democratic loss of seats in the House in 72 years, calling her toxic and even sending a letter asking that vote on the issue be delayed until Democrats could "fully understand the causes for our historic losses", until now no one has stepped up to challenge her or spoken about it.

“It is inescapable that the message that was sent by the American people is they want a change in direction. And a change in direction means a change in leadership,” Rep. Jason Altmire (D-Pa.) said on Fox News last week.

Democratic Reps. Xavier Becerra (Calif.), Chris Van Hollen (Md.), Joseph Crowley (N.Y.) and Diana DeGette (Colo.), among others, were all seen as top contenders to move up but have found themselves in limbo as Pelosi locks down the minority-leader post and Hoyer and Clyburn vie for whip. Becerra is trying to hold on to the vice chairmanship of the caucus, while Van Hollen, the campaign chief appointed by Pelosi as assistant to the Speaker, is for now on the outside looking in. He is now seeking the top Democratic position on the House Budget Committee.

None of those lawmakers has complained publicly about being shut out, but other Democrats have warned that the party risks ignoring a message from voters if they keep the same leaders in place.

“We can’t let them sit on the bench for too much longer,” one Democratic aide said, referring to the party’s younger lawmakers. “There’s a push to add in some new ideas and new faces and new energy.”

Word now is that Representative Heath Shuler (D-N.C.)may announce plans to challenge Pelosi for minority leader on an appearance scheduled for CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday and MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program on Monday.

May does not mean he definitely will and I guess people will have to wait until Sunday to know, but interestingly enough, the same article from The Hill that reported this also reported that others are planning to challenge her as well.

Shuler's North Carolina colleague, Rep. Mike McIntyre (D), said there are a "number of people" considering challenges to Pelosi.

"I've been on the phone constantly in the last few days with others who are considering the possibility," he told WECT radio. "There's a number of people and right now that's in process. I've probably talked with four to five people in the more moderate conservative part of the party, and those discussions are ongoing."

There is not much chance for anybody to actually win such a challenge against Pelosi, many expected after such a rout on November 2, 2010, she would simply step aside for the good of the party and when she did not, Republicans rejoiced and some Democrats publicly spoke up against the idea, with Ohio Representative Tim Ryan, a longtime Pelosi ally stating "We had some really good, substantive things to talk about that we didn't talk about and there's plenty of blame to go around. She's obviously in charge so she needs to take the brunt of the responsibility for it. I was brought up to be loyal to people who helped you and I want to be — but at the expense of what? I think we have to sit down as a Democratic Caucus in D.C. and ask what direction are we going in."

Pelosi has made the rounds denying her responsibility for the massive Democratic losses and Barack Obama has thrown his support behind Pelosi saying she has been an "outstanding partner" in advancing his agenda.

Pelosi also made the claim that Republicans do not get to choose who leads the Democratic party and I wholeheartedly agree with that, but since the NRC was one of the first to encourage her not step aside and in fact replaced their "Fire Pelosi" sign (after she was fired from the position of Speaker of the House during midterms) with a banner that now reads "Hire Pelosi", her statement about Republicans choosing is utterly irrelevant since she is playing right into their hands to begin with.

Perhaps one reason so many Democrats are against Pelosi staying in the Democratic leadership spot is that she has the lowest favorability ratings among all congressional figures which does not bode well for the Democratic party as a whole if they cannot even replace someone who is disliked by the majority of Americans that intensely.

Obama And Pelosi Sitting In A Tree..... K.I.S.S.I.N.G

The mutual admiration society Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi seem to have going reminds me of the childhood rhyme "Obama and Pelosi sitting in a tree... K.I.S.S.I.N.G."

I swear, after suffering the worst defeat in 70 some odd years, one would think that Democrats would get a clue, but no they didn't.

They didn't listen to the public when they were shoving Obamacare down American's throats over the loud objections of the majority. They specifically didn't listen on November 2, 2010, when Americans showed them, through the voting booths that they were taking this country in a direction Americans didn't want to go.

They deserve each other and deserve whatever happens over the next two years.

The Hill headline, "Obama lauds as an outstanding partner" is evidence of their spectacular tone deafness and refusal to understand that it was Obama's agenda and Pelosi's control as Speaker of the House to rubber stamp that agenda and push it on Americans, that caused Americans to overwhelmingly reject that agenda in a manner that left no doubt as to the message.

Message sent but not received.

President Obama lent his support to outgoing Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), calling her an "outstanding partner" in advancing his agenda.

That says it all... Pelosi advanced Obama's agenda. Period.

American rejected that agenda on November 2nd. Period.

Pelosi denies that she is the reason or even part of the reason Democrats lost the majority in the House, showing an incredible lack of common sense.

Democrats lost 60 House seats (so far), 6 Senate seats (only a third of the Senate was in play) and 998 seats from Democrats on a state level, increasing their numbers in 73 state legislative chambers of the 87 up for election.

How on earth the two top Democratic leaders, Obama and Pelosi, both of whom presided over a one party rule for two years and caused the biggest losses for their party in 72 years, could sit there and publicly congratulate each other on a job well done... is beyond me.

Calls For Pelosi To Step Aside Multiply But Fall On Deaf Ears

The calls from Democrats for Nancy Pelosi to step aside because she is "toxic" are multiplying exponentially but the are falling on deaf ears as Pelosi polls Democrats to ask if they agree with those asking to delay a vote as she shows intentions to proceed with a vote so she can win the top House minority leadership role for 2011.

At least 15 Democrats have said publicly that they have lost faith in her ability to lead — a number backed up by as many as two dozen more who are indicating the same thing privately, while others haven’t yet taken sides.

Liberal Reps. Peter DeFazio (Ore.) and Marcy Kaptur (Ohio) sent a letter to colleagues asking them to support a plan to forestall leadership elections until December — a clear effort to give the anti-Pelosi forces time to coalesce. Democratic leaders plan to go forward with the leadership contests Nov. 17, according to sources familiar with a Wednesday afternoon conference call.

"Elections matter, and the messages they send matter," Kaptur told POLITICO Wednesday — though she declined to say whether she would vote for or against Pelosi.

Fellow Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan, a longtime Pelosi ally and protege of former Pelosi confidant Rep. John P. Murtha, told the Youngstown Business Journal that he's not sure how long he needs to be loyal to the outgoing speaker.

"We had some really good, substantive things to talk about that we didn't talk about and there's plenty of blame to go around. She's obviously in charge so she needs to take the brunt of the responsibility for it," he said. "I was brought up to be loyal to people who helped you and I want to be — but at the expense of what? I think we have to sit down as a Democratic Caucus in D.C. and ask what direction are we going in."

Republicans are celebrating Pelosi's tone deafness to the meaning and message behind the worst rout Democrats have suffered in over 70 years, all presided over by Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.

But now that Pelosi is officially running for Minority Leader in the House and the GOP has gained control of the House, Republicans seem to think it's in their best interest for her to remain in control.

"With the elections past, the Republican National Committee has changed a central campaign message," a statement from the RNC said. "No longer will we be pushing a Fire Pelosi message … the RNC has a new message targeted to Congressional Democrats – HIRE PELOSI!"

In fact, the new sign that replaced the "Fire Pelosi" sign now reads "Hire Pelosi."

Democratic Rep On Pelosi: 'She’s taken us this far'-- Yup, She Took You Right Off The Cliff

Representative Mike Honda (D-Calif.) believes Nancy Pelosi has the right to lead the Democratic minority next year because of her leadership as Speaker of the House over the last four years. He says "She’s taken us this far."

Midterm elections saw the biggest turnover in Democratic seats to Republicans in over 70 years, giving control of the House of Representatives to Republicans.

Nancy Pelosi presided over that, in fact, pushing the Obama/Pelosi/Reid agenda gave them full control of what bills saw the light of day, what proposals were considered and what bills passed to go to Obama's desk to be signed.

Honda is correct, Nancy Pelosi has taken Democrats exactly where they are today with top Democratic leaders fighting over the positions and some Democrats having stated clearly that the party needs new leaders, fresh faces, new ideas and a change of direction since the American public so overwhelmingly rejected them and what they have done over the last four years they have been in control and the last two years since Barack Obama has been President.

After having lost the position of Speaker of the House, many thought Nancy pelosi would step down totally, but she decided not to and stated her intent to run as the Democratic minority leader of the House.

Some Democrats cheered, others groaned and are imploring the party not to vote on that issue immediately wanting time to understand the message voters sent them loud and clear.

Letter from Reps. Marcy Kaptur (D- Ohio) and Peter Defazio (D-Oregon) to Democratic leadership: (Via CNN)

Dear Democratic Leadership:

Our Caucus should come together next week and listen to the members who lost, the members who won narrowly close elections, and the remaining members of the caucus. We should hear their stories about what worked and what was not successful because if we do not to learn from our losses we will remain in the minority until we do learn.

Following the loss of our majority, we should fully understand the causes of our historic losses before we begin the process of rebuilding. We believe leadership elections should take place in December after our Caucus has had the opportunity to hear from each other and our concerns.

We cannot ignore the historical results of these elections. At a minimum, we lost 60 seats, with a few races still to call. According to the exit polls, we lost a majority of both male and female voters, reversing the last four years of Democratic gains. Two years ago, President Obama won a majority of the female vote by 13 points. We also lost a majority of voters over 30 years of age, including an 18 point margin for seniors. We lost the independent vote by 16 points, compared to President Obama’s 8 point margin. Finally we lost a majority of voters earning more than $50,000 a year.

Considering these disturbing exit polls, we believe we should not rush to elect a leadership slate next week, but rather spend more time to understand these historic losses. Before we chart a new path forward, we need to understand where we erred to avoid repeating past mistakes.

There is no pressing need to elect our leadership so soon after the election. We should take the Thanksgiving break to reflect on the Caucus discussions and talk with our constituents. We can then return in December to elect our leadership team. Heading into a Presidential election cycle, we believe our Caucus would benefit from a more thoughtful discussion, prior to leadership elections.

We are not endorsing or opposing any leadership candidate with this letter, but we are seeking more time for a more thoughtful discussion with everyone in the same room. America expects us to take this moment and draw the best from it in her interest. Our fates our tied together. With the economy predominant in all polls, the public knows we can do so much better for our nation. We should be given more than two weeks to understand what happened and select our leadership who will be charged with restoring our majority.

Emphasis mine.

Democrats such as Representative Jason Altmire (D-Pa.)believes the leadership under Nanacy Pelosi is one of the reasons Democrats saw such a loss in 2010 and thinks Democrats need a new leader and a change of direction. Altmire stated last week "It is inescapable that the message that was sent by the American people is they want a change in direction. And a change in direction means a change in leadership."

One aide tells The Hill that younger Democratic members are becoming frustrated at the older Democratic politicians for not understanding that "new faces", "new ideas" are needed.

The American public made it crystal clear that it doesn't want the same old same old from Democrats but wants them to change course, a phrase Democrats should be very familiar with by now since they have used it so often in the past about Republicans.

Doesn't look like that is likely to happen.

Pelosi, Hoyer and Clyburn have all touted their experience in their pitches to colleagues, arguing the caucus needs “tested” leadership to fight Republican attempts to roll back Democratic accomplishments of the last two years. And supporters of the current leadership team say that proven experience is more important than bringing in new blood.

The question here is, will the new faces, the bright would-be rising stars of the Democratic party, cave and allow the older generation to continue to ignore that Americans saw their so-called achievements as betrayals or will the younger members fight to not allow themselves to be dragged off the cliff with the old dogs that cannot seem to learn any new tricks?

New York Op-Ed Comes Out Against Pelosi's Communication Skills Instead of Her Liberal Agenda

The New York Times editorial pages comes out with a piece explaining why Nancy Pelosi should not become the Democratic House minority leader, seemingly buying into the argument that the midterms and the massive defeats across the country for Democrats wasn't because of an overreaching agenda or a completely partisan rubber stamping of the Obama agenda, but it was the failure to message properly that led to Democrat's unpopularity.

Ms. Pelosi announced on Friday that she would seek the post of House minority leader. That job is not a good match for her abilities in maneuvering legislation and trading votes, since Democrats will no longer be passing bills in the House. What they need is what Ms. Pelosi has been unable to provide: a clear and convincing voice to help Americans understand that Democratic policies are not bankrupting the country, advancing socialism or destroying freedom.

They just don't get it, they didn't understand the message that America sent.

Democrats have controlled the House of Representatives and the Senate for four years and controlled the White House for two and 63.8 percent of the country, on election day, felt the country is going in the wrong direction.

Exit polls on November 2, 2010 confirmed those numbers.

It wasn't a communication problem it was an progressively liberal agenda problem and Pelosi proved to be quite adept at getting Democrats to vote with the party and to ignore the opposition of the majority of Americans along the way, costing then a turnover of seats in the House than hasn't been seen in decades.

[Update] Draft of a letter defeated politicians are sending to Pelosi asking her to step aside if they want a chance to regain any of what they lost has been obtained by Fox News.

No idea who or how many will sign, but I implore Pelosi... IGNORE THEM, run, win and continue to show America how you have learned nothing from the defeat and will continue to push the most liberal agenda if your party is handed the House again.

Nancy Pelosi Sacrifices Democrats For Her Own Political Gain

Nancy Pelosi once again proves her own political gain, her legacy as she must think of it, counts more than the Democratic party's as a whole.

Flashback- February 2010

Pelosi urged her colleagues to back a major overhaul of U.S. health care even if it threatens their political careers, a call to arms that underscores the issue’s massive role in this election year.

Lawmakers sometimes must enact policies that, even if unpopular at the moment, will help the public, Pelosi said in an interview being broadcast Sunday the ABC News program “This Week.”

“We’re not here just to self-perpetuate our service in Congress,” she said. “We’re here to do the job for the American people.

Never mind the fact that in February 2010, every poll conducted showed the American public opposed by either a majority or plurality.

(Screen shot of February and January Polling data from Real Clear Politics- Click image to enlarge)

Fast Forward to November 5, 2010, 2 days after the worst rout of midterm history where Republicans took over 60 House seats, in effect firing Nancy Pelosi from her position as Speaker of the House, where she issued a letter of intent that she would be running as "House Democratic Leader", for the minority, after having presided over the worst defeat in 72 years.

Moderate Democrats are already lining up in opposition of her becoming the minority leader and Republicans are celebrating her decision.

Eric Cantor (R-Va.) gets the last word: "Yeah, I don't think there's any question that this says to the voters, 'We're not listening to you. We think we're right. We're going to continue the same path."

This is the best news Republicans, looking to 2012, could have received.. Nancy Pelosi, the gift that just keeps on giving..... to Republicans.

No More Speaker Of The House Nancy Pelosi- Party Time

I agree with John Boehner that the GOP takeover in control of the House of Representatives with the biggest gains since 1948 is big, that the American people do not want to see the GOP partying, they instead want to see the GOP roll up their sleeves and start working on the problems that face America.

Undoing the damage done, cutting government spending, lowering our national deficit and creating a smaller government instead of making it bigger.

Those are the mandates the American people gave the GOP last night, in a clear undeniable voice.

On the other hand, while caution should be shown about overreacting to the GOP gains, there are many prepared to put on their party hats and do a little dance over the fact that while Nancy Pelosi won her House race overwhelmingly, she has been fired from the position of Speaker of the House.

Pelosi has presided over the passage of more strict partisan legislation along straight party line votes, jamming her and Barack Obama's far left liberal agenda down the throats of Americans and many worked hard to see that Speaker's gavel torn out of her grubby hands.

The Hill reports that some believe Pelosi will step down from the Speaker's position before the GOP official takeover in January, perhaps even retiring from her Representative position as well rather than becoming the minority leader.

With the party losing more than 60 seats Tuesday, many Democrats expect Pelosi to step down from her leadership post, which would allow Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) to head the caucus. And the exodus might happen sooner than later.

The Republicans did “a masterful job” of creating a negative brand out of Pelosi, one Democratic strategist and former Hill staffer said Wednesday. For that reason, the strategist added, she might step down before the end of the year “so the negative branding doesn't carry on into the next Congress” — a sentiment echoed Wednesday by another former Democratic House staffer.

The Republicans created a negative brand out of Nancy Pelosi?

Let's take a look at recent events to show how contrary that statement is to the truth of the matter.

Before last night's election nine Democratic politicians stated they would not support Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House if Democrats retained control of the House of Representatives.

Rep. Bobby Bright (AL-02)
Rep. Jim Marshall (GA-08)
Rep. Jason Altmire (PA-04)
Rep. Mike McIntyre (NC-07)
Rep. Heath Shuler (NC 11)
TN-08 Roy Herron
TN-06 Bret Carter
LA-03 Ravi Sangisetty
MI-03 Pat Miles

Another 16 Democrats claimed they "may not" support Pelosi, on the off chance they would have retained control of the House.

Rep. Peter DeFazio (OR-04)
Rep. Walt Minnick (ID-01)
Rep. John Adler (NJ-03)
Rep. Scott Murphy (NY-20)
Rep. Travis Childers (MS-01)
Rep. John Barrow (GA-12)
Rep. Gene Taylor (MS-04)
Rep. Chet Edwards (TX-17)
Rep. Joe Donnelly (IN-02)
Rep. Mike Ross (AR 04)
Rep. Larry Kissell (NC-08)
Rep. Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin (SD-AL)
Rep. Steve Driehaus (OH-01)
IN-03 Tom Hayhurst
WV-01 Mike Oliverio
AR-02 Joyce Elliott

Quotes, and remember, these are Democrats, not Republicans.

. Ala. Rep. Bobby Bright: “I am not going to vote for Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House. Neither the leader of the minority party, John Boehner, nor the present speaker, will get my vote. I will vote for someone, a centrist, who is much more like me.”

• Ga. Rep. Jim Marshall: “My candidate’s going to be somebody who’s a centrist, preferably somebody who’s going to be speaker of the entire House”

• Miss. Rep. Gene Taylor: “I will not be voting for her again.”

• N.C. Rep. Mike McIntyre: “From what we're hearing, she's probably not going to run for speaker again. And if she does, I'm confident she's going to have opposition, and I look forward to supporting that opposition.”

• Pa. Rep. Jason Altmire: Next Congress would “certainly necessitate new leadership in the Speaker’s position.”

Candidates:
• (Ala.-05) Steve Raby supports Rep. Allen Boyd for House Speaker.

• (La-03) Ravi Sangisetty: "I believe Washington is broken, and it's time for new blood.”

• (Mich.-03) Patrick Miles: “It’s time to have a leader of the House of Representatives who can heal the partisan divide… Nancy Pelosi is not the person to do that.”

• (Mo.-07) Scott Eckersley will not support Pelosi or Boehner. “Frankly anyone who wants to raise the age on Social Security I'm not in favor of.”

• (S.C.-02) Rob Miller: “We all know Washington is broken, and I hold Nancy Pelosi accountable for that”

• (Tenn.-06) Brett Carter: “Voters in my district believe that you [Pelosi] do not represent their values”

• (Tenn.-08) Roy Herron: “Roy would not be supporting either Nancy Pelosi or John Boehner for Speaker of the House. Neither of them are in the common sense center.”

• (Utah-03) Karen Hyer: “I think it's time for new leadership in Washington.”

Bret Carter, went as far as to send Nancy Pelosi a letter asking her to not run again because it had been noted by him that she was being called an "albatross" around his neck.

So, despite the spin Pelosi supporters may wish to put on this, her "negative brand" was not caused by Republicans but by her own partisan nature and actions to which even Democratic candidates and politicians noticed clearly.

So, pass out the party hats and toot the horns, turn on the music and do a little dance before the hard work begins, because Nancy Pelosi has been fired as Speaker of the House.

A Few Democratic Obamacare/Pelosi Sacrifices

When Nancy Pelosi needed votes for Obamacare to get it passed through the House of Representatives without any bipartisan support, many Democrats were leery of doing it in case it came back to bite them on the ass, but Pelosi pushed, twisted arms and eventually got the 219 votes it took to pass the legislation.

Now, those politicians that Pelosi/Obama was willing to sacrifice, seem to suffering from that huge fall off the cliff they forced them to jump off.

The Hill reports:

Democratic Reps. Ann Kirkpatrick (Ariz.), Suzanne Kosmas (Fla.), Debbie Halvorson (Ill.), Kathy Dahlkemper (Pa.), Carol Shea-Porter (N.H.), Mary Jo Kilroy (Ohio), Steve Driehaus (Ohio) and Betsy Markey (Colo.) were all late yes votes on health reform. Most, if not all, of them will lose on Tuesday, according to nonpartisan campaign experts.

Other Democrats who announced their support in the last few days before the March 21 vote are in tossup races, including Reps. Harry Mitchell (Ariz.), Paul Kanjorski (Pa.), Chris Carney (Pa.) and Bill Foster (Ill.).

If losses for these politicians are part of the wave expected to hit the Democrats and the GOP takes control of the House of Representatives, not only will Pelosi have sacrificed their political careers to Obamacare, but she will have also sacrificed her own gavel as Speaker of the House.

I still wonder how many of these Democratic politicians, when alone, put their hands to their heads and ask themselves "what have I done?"

If they aren't now, perhaps they will ask themselves that question on November 3, 2010, the morning after the midterm election.

The answer is simple, they betrayed their constituents and then called that betrayal an "accomplishment."

[Update] As a side note here, one of the paragraphs in The Hill's report states:

It is unclear whether lawmakers will survive or fall solely based on their support of healthcare reform. But polling shows that Democrats have lost the message war this year on the landmark health law and in tight races, the yes votes could be the deciding factor.

It may be unclear to The Hill's writer, but it is not unclear to those of us that predicted, at the time of the Obamacare passage, that Democrats that voted for it would suffer in November. It is not unclear to those of us that showed poll after poll showing the majority of the country opposed to Obamacare at the time of passage.

The only people this seems to be unclear to are Obamacare proponents that insists American voters are "detached", "ignorant", "scared", and "not thinking clearly".

Pelosi, Reid Unfavorability Hits New Highs- Limbo Rock (how low can you go?!)

Rasmussen reports:

With midterm congressional elections just a week away, the number of voters who view Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Very Unfavorably have reached their highest levels yet.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 60% of Likely Voters have an unfavorable impression of Pelosi, including 52% who hold a Very Unfavorable opinion of her. That’s her highest Very Unfavorable rating since regular tracking began in early February 2009. Only 33% share a favorable impression of the California Democrat, including 16% who view her Very Favorably.

Fifty-four percent (54%) view Reid unfavorably, including 41% with a Very Unfavorable opinion, also the highest finding since February of last year. Twenty-nine percent (29%) hold a favorable view of Reid, who is struggling for reelection in Nevada. That includes just seven percent (7%) with a Very Favorable regard for him.

How low can they go?

Limbo Rock (how low can you go?!)

Just for fun!!

Give Nancy Pelosi Credit... For Breaking 'No New Deficit Spending' Promise And Raising Debt By $5 Trillion

It is being reported by The Hill that Nancy Pelosi believes the Democratically controlled Congress has not gotten the credit it so richly deserves and in another headline I see that credit being handed to her... with both barrels.

Pelosi- "we haven't really gotten the credit for what we have done."

Here is some credit for you Nancy, via CNS News, who reminds everyone of a speech Nancy Pelosi made stating "After years of historic deficits, this 110th Congress will commit itself to a higher standard: Pay as you go, no new deficit spending."

Pelosi, the 60th speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, has added more to the national debt than the first 57 House speakers combined.

(Golf clap)

Note to Pelosi- Your adulation, your applause, your reward for spending so much of the taxpayers money, will be given to you on November 2, 2010, when hopefully Americans fire your ass from the job of Speaker of the House in all their appreciation.

Giggle Worthy Article Of The Day- Rumor Pelosi Won't Run For Speaker

I actually laughed out loud when I read The Hill's article reporting that a Democratic politician, Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-N.C.), says he "heard" that Nancy Pelosi wouldn't be running for Speaker of the House again if the Democrats retained hold of the majority in the Huose of Representatives.

This is the woman that pushed, pulled, bribed and twisted arms of vulnerable Democrats to pass god awful legislation despite those same politician's constituents being against said legislation (One example- Obamacare)thereby forcing them to jump off a cliff with her.

This is the same Nancy Pelosi that insisted that Obamacare had to be passed so the public could learn what was in it. The same woman that promised to run the most ethical congress ever!!! The same woman that said and I quote "I fully expect to be speaker of the House five weeks from now."

Do these Democratic politicians that swear they will not vote for Pelosi as Speaker if she has the opportunity to run again, really think voters are stupid enough to fall for that line of reasoning?

Does any of them honestly think she would step down for the good of the party?

Even is she would (laughing again here), do they truly think that would save them come November 2, 2010?

Newsflash- Pelosi, while a huge problem, is not the extent of Democratic woes coming into the midterms, she is simply one of the politicians that betrayed the public's trust.

Democrats have had control of the House of Representatives and the Senate for four years and Democrats have had control of the White House for two and the public is damn sick and tired of them.

Obamacare, bank bailouts, auto industry bailouts, corporate bailouts, the stimulus package, an addition of $3 trillion in debt, etc etc etc..... all passed by a Democratically controlled Congress and Senate, as a whole.

They jumped off the cliff with Pelosi and now want someone to hand them a parachute in midair.

Too little, too late.

This has been your ridiculous item of the day.... back to regularly scheduled blogging.
